Note: With all silver
polishing products you should avoid getting ANY product on the PTFE bar. Always sanitize the PTFE bar before reinserting.
ALL
fine Sterling silver will tarnish over time. The more exposure to air and
water, the faster it will tarnish. There are several ways to polish your
silver jewelry. The safest "polish" we know of is a baking soda paste. Mix
3 parts baking soda to 1 part water. Apply with a soft toothbrush, soft
cloth, sponge, etc. Clean as needed, then buff to bring out the shine.
Some people find using
ordinary toothpaste and an old very soft toothbrush will sufficiently polish
their silver. Obviously don't use the toothbrush for your teeth after using
it on silver. If there are "safe" silver polish ideas out there, let us
know. :)
Another quick
method is to use a product called Tarnex™
Simply dip just the silver charm portion in for a few seconds (yes
seconds), and then rinse very well in warm water, and dry/buff with a soft
cloth. Allow to dry completely. The balls on the dangle belly rings are
stainless steel, so they should not be dipped in Tarnex™,
and of course the bar should never touch the stuff. (you can remove
the charm from the bar first to be extra careful.) This method doesn't
actually polish the silver, but it does remove tarnish very quickly.
Downside...besides needing to be a bit careful with it, ...it does not smell
good. Make sure to always sanitize the shaft
well before reinserting.
Liquid silver polish
is not recommended. It is extremely messy, and full of nasty
chemicals.
Polishing with a dry
silver polishing cloth is not recommended, as it is still treated with
chemicals, so use caution.
